En bref

Le Test du Rota-rod est un standard dans l’évaluation des molécules potentiellement actives ou ayant des effets secondaires sur la coordination motrice des rats et des souris dans le cadre de protocoles pré-cliniques. Mr Ugo Basile a inventé le modèle original du Rotarod (Rota-Rod).

Le premier rotarod industriel est âgé de presque 50 ans, sa commercialisation est basée sur l’article de 1957 de N.W Dunham et T.S Miya. La version fabriquée depuis 2016 et constamment améliorée depuis et dite  » NG  » (Next Generation). C’est la 4 ème génération depuis l’introduction du modèle original. Il est le résultat de nombreuses années d’expérience en mécatronique et prend en compte le retour d’expérience de milliers d’utilisateurs  en neuroscience et pharmacologie in vivo.

 

Ces instruments sont cités dans des milliers de publications scientifiques ( Plus de 7000).

Le nom  inventé par Mr Ugo Basile est rentré dans le vocabulaire populaire, maintenant tout le monde fait référence au « RotaRod” !

 

Qu’avons-nous amélioré dans la version du modèle NG ?

 

D’un encombrement similaire aux versions précédentes, il offre toujours une excellente fiabilité, mais le cœur technique est complètement nouveau  et innovant ! Ce nouveau modèle est doté de palets de déclenchement qui sont fabriqués intégralement en acier inoxydable.  Leur forme en tiroir retient les rats ou les souris lorsqu’elles chutent de la barre, le temps que leur congénères tombent.

 

L’écran de paramétrage et de monitoring est rehaussé et incurvé. Cela facilite la lecture et l’usage de l’écran tactile.

 

Le RotaRod peut tester 5 souris simultanément ou bien 4 rats selon le modèle. Les animaux courent sur une barre striée prévue à cet effet. Les parois séparatrices sont assez haute pour que les animaux ne se voient pas.

La hauteur est étudiée pour que l’animal ait une certaine aversion à la chute et se motive à marcher.

La roue complexe est disponible pour le RotaRod souris ou rat.

Les deux modèles sont conçus de manière à ce que l’animal se déplace sur une structure irrégulière. Un certain nombre de barres horizontales (échelons) dont le nombre peut être modifié et positionnées de manière symétrique ou inégale pour faire varier la complexité du test.

Nous livrons nos rotarod avec une Apps Windows XPAD V.3. Avec cette application, l’opérateur peut facilement programmer son expérience (liste d’animaux et protocole de vitesse) sur son poste de travail et le télécharger sur le RotaRod plus tard via la clé de transfert USB.

Les données sont générées et enregistrées en mémoire par le processeur de l’instrument sous un format CSV universel.

L’utilisateur peut ainsi ajouter des informations, avant ou après le test. Les résultats apparaissent dans une structure arborescente dans laquelle les colonnes peuvent être déplacées et supprimées sous Excel par exemple.

 

L’instrument fonctionne sans logiciel de paramétrage l’expérience peut être réglée et les résultats peuvent être exportés et visualisés également via l’écran tactile.

De nombreuses autres fonctionnalités ont été développées comme un interfaçage TTL, le diagnostic et la MAJ à distance du micrologiciel pour faire de notre ROTAROD le nouveau standard pour les 10 prochaines années.
